Description: These data provide information related to releases from underground storage tanks regulated by the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment (CDLE), Division of Oil and Public Safety (OPS). The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) Tracking program collaborated with the Water Quality Control Division (WQCD), OPS and the Colorado Geologic Survey (CGS) to create an atlas of groundwater vulnerability. The Groundwater Vulnerability Tool is comprised of datasets representing potential impacts related to groundwater quality.

The intended user is environmental health regulatory staff, likely at the county or state level, making determinations that rely in part on knowing the quality of groundwater in an area, potential impacts and performing due diligence.

Description: The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) Tracking program collaborated with the Water Quality Control Division (WQCD), OPS and the Colorado Geologic Survey (CGS) to create an atlas of groundwater vulnerability. The Groundwater Vulnerability Tool is comprised of datasets representing potential impacts related to groundwater quality.Estimated groundwater aquifer vulnerability. Based on SWAP program GW_PhysicalSetting_scores. These points were jittered using a random direction and approximately 0.5 mile offset. Jittered points were then run through IDW with a cell size of 6436 meters (~4 miles) and a variable search using 12 points or 6436 meters. IDW output raster was processed using the Math>Int tool to create integer values from random float type. Calculate gridcodes based on weighted scores from oringinal dataset. Some accuracy in vulnerabilty was lost here in rounding. Using the Int output the raster could be transformed to a polygon. The output GW_PhysicalSetting vulnerability IDW output polygon was clipped to the boundaries of the bedrock aquifers. Finally, the clipped IDW output was spatially joined to the original bedrock aquifer file in order to get aquifer designations and ancillary bedrock aquifer info.
